Robson run tipped to end in Australian Open accumulator

Published:

Laura Robson came through the ultimate war of attrition in seeing off Petra Kvitova in the second round of the Australian Open and we believe that this will be her undoing when facing Sloane Stephens next.

A Stephens victory is one of seven results that feature in our next Australian Open accumulator, which pays out to the tune of 17/1 if all of our tips come in.

She has already beaten Robson in 2013 in the warm-up event in Hobart and has had a straight-forward passage to this stage in Melbourne.

This also applies to world number one Victoria Azarenka, who should have little trouble winning in straight sets again when facing Jamie Hampton.

Azarenka is adept at blasting through early-round matches at Grand Slams against opposition outside of the top 50 of the WTA rankings.

In two of the tighter matches in the women’s third round, Maria Kirilenko is guaranteed to make fewer unforced errors against Yanina Wickmayer and thus ensure her progress.

Meanwhile, given that she has a higher WTA ranking, it is surprising to see Roberta Vinci as an underdog against Elena Vesnina.

Vesnina has been flying of late, but her price seems a little short against a player of Vinci’s calibre.

Over with the men, Gael Monfils has done well to reach this stage, but fatigue seemed to be catching up with him in his victory over Yen-Hsun Lu.

Fellow Frenchman Gilles Simon loves nothing more than a long rally and can grind Monfils down.

Marin Cilic has won his last three against Andreas Seppi and has the weapons to triumph again, while Juan Martin del Potro has not looked in danger of dropping a set so far and Jeremy Chardy only won four games when the pair clashed on the hard courts of Cincinnati last year.
