QPR v Spurs: Another R’s derby day shock unlikely

Published:

Harry Redknapp’s seemingly endless years in football management have taught him plenty of things, yet had he mastered the art of putting his foot in his mouth, he would probably still be in charge at Tottenham.

As it goes, he hasn’t and is now facing an uphill struggle to keep QPR in the Premier League, while Andre Villas-Boas gleefully builds on the foundations Arry laid at White Hart Lane and has Spurs poised to land a third top-four finish in four seasons. With three league wins on the bounce, you have to consider 5/6 a strong price that Spurs do the business against the struggling Hoops.

Comments made in the media suggest that Redknapp is far from flavour of the month over at AVB Towers and the Portuguese coach would love to add fuel to the fire that his predecessor is trying to stomp out in west London, yet he should be wary of what happened when the R’s took on Chelsea.

They snatched a 1-0 victory over their neighbours after soaking up a Blue onslaught and are likely to employ a similar approach against high-flying Spurs. The bookies are not envisioning lightning to strike twice, however, pricing the home team at long-odds of 10/3, next to the draw at 5/2.

Still, despite their heroics at the Bridge, it’s easy to understand as to why the hosts are available at such a long price.

The chances of them pulling off another smash and grab victory are remote, with Shaun Wright-Phillips’ strike against Chelsea representing only the second time they found the net in four games.

Spurs’ backline has been particularly resolute of late in contrast to this and the 13/8 available for them to finish the game with their half of the score sheet unblemished is an enticing prospect, while the 9/4 for an away win to nil has all the hallmarks of a great bet.
