M’Vila destined to join Remy as QPR aim to buy safety
Published:Harry Redknapp’s lengthy pursuit of Loic Remy is almost guaranteed to finally end in success and if Yann M’Vila joins him at QPR as speculation suggests he will, 9/5 could prove an unmissable price that QPR avoid relegation.
Redknapp was linked with Remy on more than one occasion when manager of Tottenham, but could never get a deal finalised.
However, QPR’s financial package is reportedly far superior to that put together by Newcastle and an £8m offer and wages of around £65,000 each week have convinced Remy that he has a career at Loftus Road.
Although Remy is not the deadliest finisher, with his best ever season haul being only 15, he does tend to reach double figures in terms of league goals and if he can net five or six over the duration of the current campaign, these could prove valuable.
This is especially true as Adel Taarabt currently tops their scoring charts for the campaign with a paltry four.
What is slightly more surprising is that M’Vila is happy to join his fellow Frenchman in a relegation scrap.
Only two years ago, Arsenal had an offer of €20m rejected by Rennes for M’Vila and he was well on the way to being one of the world’s best holding midfielders.
His stock has dropped slightly since, given opinions that M’Vila is a bit of a loose cannon and doubts whether he is dedicated enough to succeed at the top level.
Redknapp will need to ensure that these tendencies do not come to light at QPR, as he has already dropped some players deemed not to have the desire fight for a relegation battle.
It cannot be argued that M’Vila will be a real coup for QPR and all that needs to be sorted now is a transfer fee, with Rennes wanting £12m, while QPR are only offering £9m.
The big question mark will be the size of the relegation release clauses written into the two contracts.
QPR’s odds are 4/9 to go down and it would be no surprise if this duo left on the same day if this eventuality was confirmed.
