Inter Milan striker tempting Arsenal to make a January move

Arsene Wenger is looking to capitalise on the financial concerns of Inter Milan and move for one of their star men.

Diego Milito is believed to be one of many targets the Frenchman has sounded out for the January sales and should be available on the cheap given both his advancing years and Inter’s desire to trim their wage bill.

At 33, he doesn’t strike as your typical Wenger signing at first glance but, in a bid to end the club’s trophy drought, he has slightly altered his transfer policy in recent seasons in a bid to blend some experience into his young squads.

The Gunners have recently been linked with a move for outward bound Chelsea veteran Frank Lampard, while, earlier in the month, they failed in a bid to re-take club legend Thierry Henry on loan for a second time having completed a similar deal last season.

He’s also brought in the likes of Sol Campbell and Mickael Silvestre in recent seasons to further support this perceived switch in transfer market tact.

One thing in common all of these ageing stars share is that they have had their hands on just about every piece of silverware in the game and this important know-how is believed to be key in helping younger players get over the finishing line.

Milito not only fits this particular bill, he also boasts an imposing physical presence and knows where the back of the net is, averaging close to a goal every two games across his club career.

With Olivier Giroud gradually acclimatising to the English game, the Argentine could be the perfect short-term solution to Arsenal’s attacking concerns, while the likes of Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott are sure to profit from his ability to bring others into the game.

The biggest doubt to be raised regarding his prospective acquisition will be whether he can hit the ground running in the Premier League.

His goalscoring record in Italy, Spain and his native Argentina indicate that he is more than capable of making the transition without too much trouble and, for a predator such as himself, he’s likely to flourish in a team that creates as much as on-song Arsenal, who are priced at 17/10 to beat Manchester City this weekend.
