India to seal the series deal with convincing win in Mohali
India battered England for the second straight one-day international to take a 2-1 lead in the series and victory in Mohali will ensure that advantage becomes unassailable.
Normal service has long-since been resumed after England’s surprise opening-game success and it would take a very brave so and so to lump on their 6/4 to tie up the five-match series, with the hosts’ 8/15 looking like free money.
The poor form that has been affecting the Three Lions’ bowling unit was obviously of a contagious nature and has seemingly been contracted by the batsmen. The tourists, in their desperate quest to put a score on the board capable of winning a 50-over game, are set to axe wicket-keeper Craig Kieswetter from the team, with Jos Buttler likely to don the gloves in his absence.
There is also expected to be a big change in the England attack, with tattoo-clad quick Jade Dernbach – the world’s most expensive bowler who has ran in over 1000 times – set to be dropped in favour of Stuart Meaker.
Still, these changes are unlikely to have an outcome on the final result given the imperious way the Indians have gone about their business.
A large part of England’s failures out in the middle can be attributed to India’s exceptional performance with the ball. This is usually regarded as the weakest aspect of the world number one’s limited-overs game but, for the second match running, the bowler markets must be visited if one wishes to attain the best value on this clash.
Ravi Ashwin has helped himself to five wickets across the last two matches and for his spin bowling to take more scalps than that of English counterpart James Tredwell pays at an exceptionally priced 11/8, while over 1.5 Ashwin wickets – an absolute staple on current form – is available at the same odds.
In addition to their excellent bowling condition, they’ve won their previous two matches at the Punjab Association Cricket Stadium – the most recent being a five-wicket triumph over England – after losing three on the spin at this venue.
