Time to trust Arsenal to get job done at shortish odds against Newcastle

Arsenal may have let punters down on more than one occasion this season when short prices for home victories, but they look worth another chance at 9/20 to get the job done when Newcastle visit the Emirates.

The Gunners have failed to beat Sunderland, Fulham and Swansea when priced around the 1/2 mark this season and punters will be fearful of history repeating itself again.

After all, as injury depleted as Newcastle are, they are still managing to score goals as they proved when losing 4-3 at Old Trafford last time without the likes of creative duo Hatem Ben Arfa and Yohan Cabaye.

However, this is a fixture that Arsenal tend to enjoy as they have triumphed in seven of their last nine meetings with Newcastle.

Meanwhile, they had the luxury of Boxing Day off after their fixture with West Ham was rearranged and their recent form is fairly good with just one defeat in eight games.

A change in personnel in playing Theo Walcott as a striker and the midfield trio of Mikel Arteta, Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere together has also had a positive impact.

Throw in that Newcastle are down to the bare bones at the back and are woeful on the road, without a win or clean sheet all season, and this adds further weight to a predicted Arsenal success.

The other bet that looks hard to oppose is both teams finding the target, with Newcastle’s defensive problems already highlighted and Arsene Wenger’s men prone to lapses in concentration.

5/6 certainly looks a decent price that both teams score.

Taking everything into consideration, another reasonable price seems to be in the total result market, with 1/1 on offer that Arsenal win a game that features more than 2.5 goals.
