Swansea v Middlesbrough: no more upsets in Capital One Cup

Published:

Middlesbrough make the long trip to Swansea for their 12th successive away game in the Capital One Cup – and it looks like ending in misery for Tony Mowbray’s men.

Boro are the 4/1 outsiders to make it to the semi finals of the competition they won back in 2004 in 90 minutes but, while they’ve been in pretty decent form recently, a victory over an increasingly impressive Swansea side looks a little beyond them.

The Liberty has become something of a fortress for Michael Laudrup’s side, with Swansea losing just two of their last 13 home games in all competitions.

Admittedly, one of them was in their last clash against Norwich but they followed their worst 45 minutes of the season with an excellent second half display that nearly saw them nick a point after being 3-0 down.

While, their defence was poor against the Canaries, their excellent form in front of goal continued – and it’s even better in the Capital One Cup.

They’ve hit eight goals in their previous three Premier League games, whilst in the League Cup they’ve hit three in their three ties this term –  3-1 at home to Barnsley, 3-2 at Crawley and 3-1 away to Liverpool.

Backing the Welsh side to win with over 2.5 goals scored in the 90 minutes looks well worth consideration at 7/5.

However, if you’re after longer odds though then there’s some evidence to suggest Boro may make a game of it.

They’ve won seven of their previous 10 away games and have only failed to score in three of their last 25 games away from the Riverside.

They’re 8/1 to win with over 2.5 goals scored, while a draw at 90 minutes can be backed at 11/4.
