Stoke v Everton: Potters unbeaten home record to go on

Published:

Stoke are one of just two Premier League sides who can boast an unbeaten home record and Everton – the other team yet to lose on their own patch – will be looking to stick a pin in this bubble at the Britannia.

At 6/4, they’re the surprising favourites to claim the spoils with the hosts weighing at 9/5 and the draw tagging along at 23/10.

The bookies might well regret pricing the Potters at such long odds come five o’clock on Saturday given the fact that Everton have only won just two of their last 10 matches and have not kept a single clean sheet in that time.

In addition to this, they haven’t won away from Goodison Park since mid-September and, while they remain hard to beat (they’ve drawn four of their last five on the road), the Toffees are set to face a team who haven’t tasted defeat in six games.

Few teams are in better shape than Tony Pulis’ at the moment with four wins in a current purple patch that’s seen their defence breached just twice. These facts make the 1/2 for Stoke not lose in the double chance stakes look a really attractive proposition.

An even better prospective punt is 9/4 for the home side to keep a clean sheet. Everton’s biggest goal threat comes in the form of Marouane Fellaini and, although he is expertly adept both in the air and on the ground, no team is better prepared to deal with the Toffees long balls up to him than Stoke.

The Toffees are more than capable of bagging goals from other areas but, with their attacking Plan A expected to fail them here, a home clean sheet could easily occur.

The best bet available on this one, however, is a dizzying 9/2 for the home team to get the job done with fewer than 2.5 goals to be scored, which has been the case in all but one of the five games where the Potters have claimed the spoils.
