Spurs eye Porto midfielder Joao Moutinho in January sales
Published:Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas is poised to make a mega-money move for Porto midfielder Joao Moutinho this January – if the latest rumours are to be believed.
According to the Mirror, Villas-Boas went to watch the 26-year-old in action against Paris Saint-Germain in the week, although the Portuguese says he was just there catching up with old friends.
They came within a whisker of nabbing the player in the summer but were unable to tie up a deal before the transfer window closed.
With Emmanuel Adebayor not tickling Villas-Boas’s fancy, a striker may seem the most pressing of concerns for Spurs but, with Gylfi Sigurdsson hardly setting the Premier League alight since his move to London, another midfielder wouldn’t go amiss – especially if they’re as classy as the Portuguese.
Spurs’ decent start to their season has seen them cut to 1/1 to finish in the top four for the third time in four years and make it into the Champions League.
Meanwhile, the rumours about Spurs’ north London rivals Arsenal show no sign of petering out with yet another player linked with the Gunners by the Metro.
Montpellier captain and defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is just 23-years-old and French, making him a prime candidate to join Arsene Wenger’s side.
As it’s Arsenal though, it’s not all good news, with full-back Bacary Sagna, 29, apparently keen to leave the Emirates at the end of the season.
According to the Daily Mail, his decision has been prompted by the Gunners refusing to give him any more than a one-year extension to his current contract that expires in 2014.
The Gunners are the same price as Spurs at 1/1 to finish in the top four.
