QPR v West Brom: Hoops to climb the table with win

Published:

It’s important to remember that, while Christmas is all fun and games for the majority of people, for others, it’s a tough time when the problems of the past year are brought to a head.

So spare a thought for QPR this festive period.

After a summer of pretty heavy investment, they will head to face West Brom rooted firmly in the relegation zone, having been there since the start of September. It’s not been the Christmas many predicted for the Hoops at the start of the season.

In stark contrast, West Brom were supposed to struggle under a new boss with no managerial experience, but find themselves riding high(ish) in the table with the threat of relegation but a bad memory.

However, there has been a slight change in fortunes in recent weeks. Harry Redknapp’s arrival at QPR has triggered a decent spell of form for the west London side and they got their first win thanks to a 2-1 victory against Fulham and the climbing out of the relegation zone no longer seems such an insurmountable goal.

Meanwhile, West Brom have lost their last two away games against Swansea City and Arsenal by two goals a-piece, although they did win at home to Norwich last time.

They shipped two goals against QPR earlier in the season (although they came out 3-2 winners) and backing Redknapp to drag the Hoops closer to safety looks the best of the match bets at 11/10.

Meanwhile, with QPR ‘boasting’ the worst home attack in the division and the Baggies scoring just once in their previous two away games, backing there to be under 2.5 goals in the game looks a decent shout at 5/6.
