Olympiacos v Arsenal: Gunners will avoid a tragedy in Greece

Published:

Arsenal head into their final Champions League Group B game against Olympiacos as the 9/4 favourites – but it’s hard to consider backing them at those odds.

The Gunners have endured a dire couple of weeks that culminated in a turgid and uninspiring performance that saw them dismantled 2-0 by Swansea City last Saturday.

To be fair to the north London side, they have performed markedly better in the Champions League this season and have already qualified for the knockout stages with one game to spare.

They need to better the result of current group leaders Schalke to stand any chance of topping the group though and, based on their recent performances, a win does look a little beyond them.

Arsene Wenger’s men have won just two of their last eight games in all competitions and haven’t been victorious away from the Emirates in 90 minutes in their previous eight attempts.

However, if Arsenal do win the group then Ladbrokes will double the odds of the winning first goalscorer in the match.

Olympiacos aren’t exactly a terrifying proposition either.

They lost their last game against Arsenal 3-1 in October and have lost both of their encounters with group leaders Schalke.

They have won three of their last four Champions League home games though, scoring three goals in each of those encounters – including a 3-1 victory over Arsenal last season.

They have nothing but pride to play for though so avoid the 15/8 offered for them to come out on top and plump for the decent 12/5 quoted for the draw between two teams who (with Schalke sure to beat Montpellier), have little riding on the outcome.

If Arsenal win Group B, we’ll double the odds of the winning 1st goalscorer in the match. T&Cs will be at www.ladbrokes.com/arsenal
