Man Utd boss Ferguson admits Mourinho could do his job

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted Jose Mourinho could “absolutely” do his job – just as rumours about the Special One’s future at Real Madrid are starting up again. 

In an interview for an ITV4 documentary, Ferguson has nothing but praise for the man who he’s enjoyed numerous battles with throughout the years and reckons he has the abilities to take over from him when he finally leaves the Old Trafford dugout.

Ferguson said: “He can manage anywhere, absolutely.

“I would never think a guy who hasn’t played a game could be a top coach but then you’ve got to look at his personality. He’s got a marvellous, strong personality and that bridges that gap.”

Mourinho is currently amongst the frontrunners for the United job when Ferguson leaves and rumours in Spanish paper Marca this morning suggest that the Portuguese is going to be heading out of Madrid sooner rather than later.

Marca is reporting that a deal looks set to be put in place to allow Mourinho to leave the Spanish side in the summer.

However, United isn’t the only possible destination for the Real boss, with his former club Chelsea currently having a rather dire time of things.

Rafa Benitez is without a win in his first three games at Stamford Bridge and the boos are getting louder – quite an achievement considering they were ear-splitting before he’d even taken charge of a game.

Mourinho has said several times in the past that he wants to come back to England to manage and, with Ferguson’s time at United’s helm surely coming to an end in the coming years and Chelsea fans still pining for their exiled hero, that time could be coming rather soon.
