Fulham v Newcastle: It pays to side with home team in this clash

Published:

Fulham enter their Monday night tie with Newcastle without a win in eight outings, but will feel they have a superb chance to end that run at 1/1.

Visitors Newcastle are not in the most sparkling form themselves, and although they were 3-0 conquerors of Wigan last Monday, that was their first success in seven league games.

Therefore, many will be reluctant to side with the 13/5 travellers, and having lost on five of their last six trips to Craven Cottage, even the draw seems unappealing at 5/2.

What looks a far more attractive proposition is for Fulham to succeed in a game where both teams find the net, a tempting possibility at 11/4.

Either defence has been breached in four of the last five home Cottagers wins over Newcastle, whilst Fulham have scored and conceded in four of their most recent six games too.

More cautious punters can simply back both teams to score as an 8/13 chance, with 6/5 the price against the two teams finding the net.

It should also be considered that at least three goals have emanated from half of the past six Craven Cottage encounters between these two, an outcome which appears plausible again.

Over 2.5 goals in the game has huge appeal at 8/11, but a shrewder punt could be on Fulham to win with this amount of goals occurring at 15/8.

Half markets could provide useful betting opportunities for punters here too, with a slow-burning start a recent tradition in this fixture.

The sides have gone into the break level in seven of their past 11 clashes, and 19/5 looks a tremendous price about a half-time draw leading to a full-time Fulham win.

As first scorer chances meanwhile, Dimitar Berbatov heads the betting at 9/2 to extend his lead at the head of Fulham’s scoring charts.

Newcastle’s Demba Ba looks huge at 7/1 though, considering he has struck 10 times already this term, and bagged a brace in his last league outing for the Magpies.
