Wigan v West Brom: Hard to split two form teams

Published:

Winning games in November must be a weird feeling for Wigan, who normally wait until they’re adrift at the bottom of the table and the clocks have gone forward again before they start picking up points.

Beating Tottenham away last time out was a commendable achievement, especially given the fact that they fully warranted the three points, yet whether they’re worth a bet as 13/10 favourites to beat one of the Premier League’s form teams in West Brom is a different matter.

The Baggies are up to their old tricks of winning at home, while they were unfortunate not to get a point out of Newcastle on their last away trip. A fortunate Papiss Cisse injury-time winner prevented them from drawing three of their four away days in the league with 1-1 scorelines.

Wigan are notoriously unpredictable and, despite their mini-hot streak, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone if Steve Clarke’s side emerged from the DW Stadium victorious. A price of 2/1 for an away win means the bookies expect this one to swing either way, while the draw at 23/10 is also a tasty prospect given West Brom’s exploits on the road this term.

The Latics have recorded one win over their next adversaries in each of the four seasons that they have shared Premier League status and, of the eight meetings, six of them have seen both teams finding the back of the net.

For Roberto Martinez’s side to pick up their annual victory over West Brom here with both teams on target can be backed at a sizeable 10/3, while the 4/6 on offer just for both to score is well worth a bet.

These two are tough to separate and with the Baggies developing a penchant for 1-1 draws on the road, this could well be the outcome here. Back it to come in at 11/2.
