Spurs v Liverpool: Rodgers’ optimism faces another test

Brendan Rodgers was once again one of the few people impressed with his side’s performance at the weekend – but that’s not to say the Northern Irishman is completely delusional

He may be putting an overly positive spin on things, but the Reds are definitely moving in the right direction and they shouldn’t be ignored at a very decent 3/1 to win at White Hart Lane.

However, while it shouldn’t be completely ignored, it should certainly be approached with caution.

Liverpool have won just one of their six Premier League away games this term and their recent visits to north London haven’t exactly been successful endeavours.

They haven’t picked up a victory in their last five trips to White Hart Lane and were dismantled 4-0 there last season (the Reds were down to nine men by the 63^rd minute though).

Spurs are currently 11/8 to get another home win against the Reds which would make it six on the bounce, although their last encounter ended in a goalless draw at Anfield.

With the Reds drawing 0-0 against Swansea in their last game, another draw can be backed at 9/4.

Both sides are currently facing similar problems up top, with neither team having much in the way of back-up for their main striker heading into this clash. Luis Suarez will be fighting a lone battle with Fabio Borini out injured, while Jermain Defoe will have to plough on alone with Emmanuel Adebayor suspended.

If it’s not working for either side in the final third then there is little either coach can do to change things up which – along with the fact that Liveprool haven’t scored in three games against Spurs – makes backing the goalless draw at 10/1 look a pretty tempting long-odds punt.
