The two sides of Fernando Torres [Infographic]

For three-and-a-half goal-laden years, Fernando Torres was a Liverpool hero.

The Kop idolised him and opposition defenders feared facing him on Merseyside.

Then came his record-breaking move to Chelsea in January 2011 that sent shockwaves through British football. The striker plays his former club this Sunday at Stamford Bridge and is the 11/2 favourite to the score the first goal.

As our graphic illustrates, though, the Spaniard has endured a bittersweet start to his Chelsea career.

While the 28-year-old claimed two pieces of silverware last season, most notably the Champions League, he has been unable to reproduce the form that made him so prolific for the Reds.

Torres is starting to look back to his best this season and has eight goals to his name, including the opener in Wednesday’s 3-2 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

A goal against Liverpool, something he has yet to manage for the Blues, would boost his confidence further, but the Reds have won all three Premier League encounters between the two clubs since his big-money move.

Torres clearly has fond memories of his time at Anfield, as he recently told Spanish newspaper El Pais: “I owe Liverpool a huge amount.

“To the people, to the men in charge, to (Rafael) Benitez and his staff, to the city. A huge amount.”

That loyalty will soon be forgotten on Sunday afternoon as Torres looks to prove his worth at Chelsea.
