Schalke v Arsenal: Hard to look past Germans after Emirates win

| 06.11.2012

Schalke’s coasting at the Emirates a fortnight ago has seen them move to the head of the betting in the build up to their clash in Germany.

The hosts are 5/6 to win the game, with Arsenal long at 10/3 and the draw – which the Gunners would take right now given their recent struggles on the pitch – is available at 12/5.

With one win in 90 minute from five, Arsene Wenger’s men are not in the best shape going into this one and were well beaten at Old Trafford and with just three wins in 13 Champions League away games – a run which includes eight defeats – it’s difficult to see them getting anything from this trip.

They have also lost five from 11 tussles on German soil though will take some confidence from the fact that Schalke have lost their last two home games against English opposition without scoring a goal.

A reverse at Hoffenheim last time out snapped a five-match winning streak for Huub Stevens’ men, yet with four clean sheets from these six games they’ll be confident of keeping an Arsenal side at bay who haven’t been at the races of late. A generous price of 7/4 says that they will.

Arsenal’s struggles to score goals resurfaced at Old Trafford last time out and, without vast improvement against a competent Schalke side, they’re likely to struggle again here. A repeat result of that which occurred at the Emirates is available to back at 12/5, but a home win with two goals or fewer scored at 4/1 represents the best bet in this one.
