Man Utd still best bet to be top away team despite Norwich hiccup

Taking nothing away from Norwich, who worked hard, expressed themselves and had John Ruddy in commanding form, but Manchester United were not really at the races at Carrow Road.

Sir Alex Ferguson will not accept too many of these showings, even if the opposition do make life difficult and so Manchester United still look worth backing at 1/1 to have the best Premier League away record this season.

Their five wins on the road is already two more than any other club and their 15 points from away days is four more than has been mustered by anyone else.

The fact that they have claimed victories at Stamford Bridge and Anfield is another positive, given that these are fixtures where the club would have arguably settled for a share of the spoils.

Furthermore, looking back across the last three completed seasons, no other club besides Man Utd have won more than 10 Premier League away games and this is something that Sir Alex has masterminded twice in this period.

This suggests that Man Utd are more adept than anybody else at getting the job done away from Old Trafford.

What was notable last season in away outings was that they kept nine clean sheets and only conceded more than one on two occasions.

Their scoring prowess is evident this season and with Nemanja Vidic due back in the new year, this should help them tighten up at the other end at the business stage of the campaign.

Manchester City are the obvious challengers to have the best Premier League away record at 11/5.

They may have only picked up nine points on the road, but they are still unbeaten and have played two away games less than their Manchester neighbours.

Additionally, they have only played one of the current bottom nine on the road, which suggests they have plenty of winnable games ahead of them.
