League One Accumulator: Pompey star in 23/1 fourfold

Portsmouth to beat Brentford @ 17/10

Few would dispute the fact that Michael Appleton has the most unenviable job in English football, but he’s making a fist of things on the south coast.

After a sluggish start to proceedings, he’s hauled beleaguered Pompey up to 15th in the table and their home performances have been crucial to this where they have won three on the spin in League One.

Brentford won’t be easy opposition, having lost just once in 11 games in all competitions, but they have failed to win a single game on the road in the league this term so Portsmouth needn’t fear the sting of the Bees here.

Bournemouth to beat Shrewsbury @ 4/6

Another south-coast club who have been enjoying a rich vein of form is Bournemouth, who have been invigorated through Eddie Howe’s return to manage the club.

In the five games since he re-joined from Burnley, the Cherries have won four, drawn one and filled their boots with an impressive 16 goals.

They prepare to host a Shrewsbury side who have failed to win any of their last four, losing three of them 3-1. Having conceded 11 in this period it looks unlikely that they’ll keep Bournemouth quiet as their quest to avoid relegation is set to take another turn for the worse.

Walsall to beat Scunthorpe @ 21/20

Walsall’s good form that they began the season with has deserted them somewhat and Dean Smith’s Saddlers have not won in eight matches, six of which were in League One.

However, if there’s one side on a worse streak than them it’s Scunthorpe, whose run of five losses from seven saw manager Alan Knill sacked though this didn’t prevent Gillingham handing them a 4-0 hiding in the FA Cup last time out.

They have a poor record against tonight’s opposition too, failing to win in six of their last seven against Walsall which, coupled with the Irons abysmal form, makes them very much worth backing at 21/20.

Stevenage to beat Yeovil @ 6/4

With five wins on the road and just one defeat, Stevenage must be worth a bet to beat Yeovil at Huish Park.

This is the selection with which we have the least confidence in given the fact that the hosts have won four of their last five, but they preceded this run with six successive defeats, meaning they’re far from invincible.

The visitors will also be buoyed by the fact that they boast the joint-meanest defence in the division, conceding just four goals in seven away days. If they can pinch one at Yeovil, they’re more than capable of seeing out the win.
