King of Stats: all the numbers for ATP World Tour Finals

Published:

After a year in which he won a first career Grand Slam, patriotic punters will be ploughing into Andy Murray’s chances of following his US Open triumph with another victory at the ATP World Tour Finals.

Below are some statistics that may help provide some other paths to profit.

2 – Roger Federer has won the event in each of the last two years, despite being the top seed for neither. He is therefore surprisingly third favourite in the betting this year at 11/4 to triumph as the second seed.

5 – The number five seed has progressed from the group stages into the semi finals in all three years that the ATP World Tour Finals have been held in London. Tomas Berdych is the fifth seed this time and is 7/1 to win Group A.

0 – In both of the last two years, the number eight seed has been eliminated at the group stage without winning a match. Janko Tipsarevic has qualified outright for the first time this year and will be bidding to avoid losing all three group matches. He also has a worse head-to-head record with all three players in Group B.

18 – Roger Federer has never lost a professional match to either Janko Tipsarevic or David Ferrer, which is a run that takes in 18 contests. He is in Group B against both in London and is 4/6 to progress to the semi finals as group winner.

2- David Ferrer has won his last three encounters with Juan Martin del Potro and both thus far in 2012 in straight sets. Ferrer’s wins in his last two tournaments means he is unbeaten in ten matches and is 11/4 to extend this to 11 by beating Del Potro in straight sets again.

5 – Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s chances of progress in Group A look slim as Novak Djokovic is the only opponent he has previously beaten more than once. Tsonga is 7/2 to beat Djokovic for a sixth time in his opener here.

1.1 – £1.1m will be purse claimed by the winner if he successfully goes through the tournament unbeaten. Roger Federer has the easier of the two groups and looks the most likely to achieve this feat.
