Everton v Norwich

The Canaries back line has improved no end in recent weeks and, while they’re not going to go to Goodison Park and bang the goals in for a laugh, they could easily frustrate the hosts for long periods.

One goal is the most they’ve managed in any one game away from Carrow Road, while the Toffees have had the ball in the back of the net at least twice in all their home matches except the curtain-raiser against Man United.

Expect a tight game here in which, courtesy of a solitary goal, Everton will prevail.

Man Utd v QPR

QPR are in turmoil at the foot of the table and, with United reeling after their shock defeat at Norwich, bad things are going to happen to them at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have conceded at least one goal in all bar one of their home games to date so Mark Hughes’ side are in with a shout of getting on the scoresheet, but their slap-dash defence should take a battering from Robin van Persie and co who will be looking for someone to take last week’s frustrations out on.

Verdict: 5-1 Man United

Stoke v Fulham

The Potters struggle for goals, while it’s anyone’s guess as to what Fulham are going to do.

Six of the nine meetings these have played out while Stoke have held Premier League status have been won to nil, with four of the last five finishing 2-0 either way.

If the Cottagers can keep Tony Pulis’ band of bruisers quiet, repel an aerial bombardment and don’t fall foul of any ingenious set-plays like West Ham recently did, they could pinch this one.

Verdict 0-1 Fulham

Wigan v Reading

Brian McDermott was a relieved man when the final whistle went last Saturday as the Royals claimed their first win of the campaign.

It took them out of the relegation zone and extended their unbeaten run over 90 minutes to five matches. They head to Wigan – who are not the most reliable of sides, to say the least – full of confidence and, despite the hosts’ favouritism, expect them to do well again here.

The Latics have won just once at the DW all season; Reading definitely have it in them to claim at least a point in this one.

Verdict: 1-1

Aston Villa v Arsenal

Villa are well and truly in the relegation mix and, with a poor record against Arsenal, they will not welcome the Gunners to Villa Park.

They’ve lost five of the last seven in this fixture and won just one of their last seven league games this term, yet Arsenal’s tendency to shoot themselves in the foot could work in Villa’s favour here.

A good win over Tottenham last time out demonstrated their attacking prowess and defensive susceptibility in the same 90 minutes. If Villa can withstand the Gunners’ intricate attacking play and be as potent as they were against Man Utd recently, they’re in with a chance here.
