Federer to help himself to ATP Tour Finals record with Tipsarevic win

Roger Federer certainly holds his fair share of records in the tennis books, but a victory over Janko Tipsarevic in his Group B opener at the ATP World Tour Finals will add another to his growing list.

For those interested, the list currently includes being the only player to win at least one bagel set in finals at three different Grand Slams and being involved in the longest ever Wimbledon final in terms of time.

Federer is 1/12 to beat the Serbian number two and a triumph will be his 40th at this tournament, moving beyond the record he currently shares with Ivan Lendl.

The good news is that Federer has never lost to Tipsarevic in all five previous career meetings, winning on four occasions in straight sets.

This makes 2/7 a decent price that Federer wins this one 2-0, while 8/11 is not a bad price that he overcomes a 4.5 game handicap.

The other Group B is much tougher to call, with David Ferrer perhaps a surprise underdog at 5/4 to beat Juan Martin del Potro.

Ferrer has won seven consecutive sets against the Argentine and has comfortably prevailed in both previous encounters in 2012.

However, the Spaniard has been heavily on the go of late, with literally no rest between winning the Paris Masters and arriving in London.

In fact, Ferrer has won his last two tournaments in back-to-back weeks.

Del Potro has also been in impressive form and the fact that he went out early in Paris may prove to be for the best to ensure a degree of rest before this tournament.

He is 8/13 to beat Ferrer and with the surface said to be quick in London, this will aid him over Ferrer, who tends to hit less winners.
