Everton v Sunderland: Visitors woeful in this fixture

Published:

Sunderland are lacking in goals so they will not welcome a trip to Goodison Park where they will lock horns with Everton and their notoriously stringent defence.

At 11/2, they’re one of the biggest prices in the Premier League this weekend, while the Toffees can be backed as short as 8/15 and 14/5 says the spoils will be shared.

The Black Cats must be wondering who’s going to put the ball in the back of the net for them after Steven Fletcher’s fine start to the campaign came to an abrupt halt as September drew to a close, yet he remains their only scorer in the league to date exemplifying their issues up top.

You have to go all the way back to 2001 to find the last time Sunderland got the better of Everton, thanks to a single Claudio Reyna strike at the Stadium of Light – there have been an incredible 18 renewals since.

History suggests that this won’t be the game where they end their barren spell in front of goal which makes the 6/4 that says Everton will win to nil well worth a few quid, despite the fact that they have drawn their last four games.

Three of these have been 2-2 but it is almost unfathomable for toothless Sunderland to net two goals within 90 minutes, hence the unlikely 18/1 price for it to come in.

If Everton net the first of the game – which 2/5 says they will – it’s highly likely that Sunderland heads will drop and one goal could easily be enough to see the Toffees over the line as they continue their quest to break into the Premier League’s top-four for the second time under David Moyes.

They’ll be desperate for a win after a frustrating spell of draws and they’re not the most prolific at the best of times. A 1-0 home win in this one is available at a very generous 11/2 and has to be worth a bet given the form of both teams.
