Berdych to prove too strong for Murray in Finals opener

Andy Murray’s fantastic season comes to an end at the 02, where he will be aiming to claim his first World Tour Finals victory in four attempts.

His first opponent is big-serving Czech Tomas Berdych and the US Open champion is 4/11 to begin his campaign with a win.

Murray got the better of Berdych on his way to claiming his first major crown in a 3-1 win, yet the current world number six has come out on top in four of the seven meetings between the pair.

Only two of these games have been decided in straight sets, and for Berdych to record a win over the Olympic Gold-medallist with the game going the distance, a generous 9/2 is on offer.

This outcome is supported by the fact that Murray has never recorded successive wins over the Czech and his shock loss to Jerzy Jankowicz does not suggest that he’s in the greatest of form.

Novak Djokovic is also in action when he takes on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and the Serb is huge, odds-on favourite at 1/5.

Based on their current clashes this is understandable, as Tsonga’s dynamic style has struggled to have an impact against Djokovic who has won the last four meetings, three of which in straight sets.

He’s 4/7 to achieve the feat again, but the 5/4 that says there will be a tie-break in this match is worth a bet.

Despite Djokovic dominating the recent clashes in terms of scoreline, the actual sets have been much tighter. There have been two tie-breaks in the past four renewals, as well as four 7-5’s. This suggests that Tsonga just lacks that little bit extra to get over the line, but has the ability to push the former world number one all the way, which means there’s every chance of a tie-break occurring here.
