Unbeaten Tranmere remain a hefty price for League One glory

Published:

Tranmere sit at the top of League One, and despite being unbeaten in their first 11 games, remain a lengthy 7/1 to claim the third tier title.

Ronnie Moore has revolutionised the club in his third spell back on Merseyside, but few could have envisaged such a tremendous start to this campaign.

Rovers are one of three unbeaten League One sides, but possess a noticeably greater win ratio than their rivals, and sit four points clear at the head of the table.

A particularly positive goal difference also sets them apart from their league counterparts, with Moore’s men racing to a plus 20 total even at this early stage of the season.

Shrewd summer investment has undoubtedly factored in such sterling early form, with the likes of Jean Akpa-Akpro and Jake Cassidy impressing immensely.

Those two, along with captain Andy Robinson, share the league’s leading scorer billing, and should Moore be allowed to invest further in January, he seems likely to do so wisely again.

Therefore, now looks the best time to back Rovers for League One glory at that 7/1, whilst it is a tempting 12/5 about the league leaders achieving promotion by any means.

Of their main rivals, Sheffield United, who also remain unbeaten yet sit outside the automatic promotion places, are 3/1 favourites to win the division.

They too have made strong additions to their squad, with Dave Kitson and Paul Gallagher acquisitions with Premier League experience in abundance.

Boss Danny Wilson will be desperate to improve on last year’s campaign, where play-off final defeat followed a third-place finish, and the Blades are 6/5 to be promoted.

With their current playing squad, United look as good as anyone to achieve promotion with Tranmere, but some could be put off by the relatively short price attributed to them.

Therefore, punters may opt to invest in the possibility of consecutive promotions for Paolo Di Canio’s Swindon, who have drifted slightly to 5/1 for the title amidst some patchy recent form.

The Robins have made their County Ground home a fortress in recent times though, and after victory last week away to Bury, seem to be back on track for a promotion bid.

It is 13/8 they go up again this term, and that is a price well worth considering.
