Terry to leave Chelsea for Valencia seems a little far-fetched

Chelsea’s fine start to the season has seen them shorten to 5/2 to win the Premier League and fans should not be too concerned over speculation that John Terry is planning on leave Stamford Bridge for the sunny shores of Valencia.

Terry has been embroiled in huge amount of controversy in recent years and according to FIFA-accredited agent Francois Gallardo, he has asked to leave Chelsea because he has been “insulted” by the club.

The comments were allegedly told to Spanish radio station Radio Intereconomia, where he added that an initial 18-month deal is already on the table and the plan is that the deal will be completed in January, with Terry keen.

However, how true these rumours are and whether Valencia need, or could afford, Terry remain to be seen.

This is the same Gallardo that indicated earlier this summer that he had a signed document allowing him to begin negotiations with Barcelona for Didier Drogba, yet this amounted to little.

Aside from Terry’s loyalty to Chelsea, the big reasons why the deal is unlikely to go through is because of Terry’s wage demands and the lack of trophies Terry will win at Valencia.

Valencia’s current highest earner is striker Roberto Soldado, who only earns approximately £40,000 each week.

The club do have quite a defined wage structure and even if they are prepared to extend their top-earner bracket to bring in Terry, there is no way they could afford to offer him almost triple the amount currently given to Soldado.

Valencia are not in the best financial position at present and this has been proved by the fact they have had to sell their star assets in recent seasons, such as David Silva, David Villa and Juan Mata.

Terry is under contract until 2014 at Chelsea and even if an extension cannot be agreed, he is almost guaranteed to stay until the end of the campaign as a minimum.
