Ten years on and Rooney can score new wonder goal against Stoke

Published:

Ten years and one day ago Wayne Rooney was a barely-known youngster waiting for a big break in the Everton first team.

Fast forward 24 hours and Rooney had scored a last-minute winner from 25 yards to end Arsenal’s 30-game unbeaten run and announce himself onto the football stage at the age of 16.

Whether Rooney has fulfilled his potential in the period since is another debate, but he has the opportunity to mark his debut strike a decade later when Manchester United host Stoke.

This could be done in a number of ways and Ladbrokes are running a selection of Rooney specials for the Old Trafford encounter.

Rooney is 5/1 to repeat his exploits with another goal from outside of the penalty box and with Stoke only conceding five times in the top-flight thus far, this may be the best way to breach their tight defence.

A bicycle kick would be another special goal to mark the occasion and he has previous for this type of finish when settling the Manchester derby in February 2011.

Rooney called this the best goal of his career among a host of gems and he can be backed at 20/1 to add another overhead kick to his resume against Stoke.

Taking home the match ball would be another worthy accomplishment against Stoke and Rooney can be backed at 12/1 to put the visitors to the sword with a hat-trick.

Interestingly, Stoke have conceded hat-tricks in the last two calendar years in the Premier League, but this is yet to happen to them in 2012.

Other markets are that Rooney is 3/1 to fire in the opener, 4/6 to be on target at any point in the 90 minutes and 1/1 not to score in the fixture.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
