Silva tops list of native favourites at UFC 153

Anderson Silva is the biggest odds-on favourite at UFC 153, as the Brazilian fighter aims to justify a 1/12 price to beat Stephan Bonnar in Rio de Janeiro.

Bonnar is a 7/1 chance to cause an upset, but would appear to have precious little chance of doing so, with a Silva win via knockout the most tempting option.

That outcome seems most plausible at 8/13, and would be the perfect result to send the Brazilian crowd home happy.

Elsewhere on the card meanwhile, a number of other intriguing clashes are in prospect.

Demian Maia, who has recently transitioned into the welterweight division, kicks off proceedings as 4/6 favourite to overcome Rick Story.

Maia can make it back-to-back victories at welterweight, and could prove value at 3/1 for a submission win, thus inflicting Story’s third defeat in his last four bouts.

In the next fight on the card, 5/19 Phil Davis can overcome Wagner Prado, providing he makes use of the significant advantage he has on the ground.

Davis is a former national champion wrestler, and as such the American could be worth investment to win by submission at 3/2.

In what could prove a show-stealing clash, Jon Fitch hopes to quell fast-rising star Erick Silva at 6/5.

Silva is 2-1 thus far, but was unlucky to be disqualified in his one UFC defeat to date, and will be popular with some punters at 20/29.

He faces his toughest test yet here though, and Fitch’s superior experience could prove the difference.

Meanwhile, Glover Teixeira can make his mark on the event, by besting Fabio Maldonado at 5/19 in his native Brazil.

Teixeira was originally billed to face ‘Rampage’ Jackson here, but instead will turn his attentions, and immense punching power, to Maldonado.

At 9/4 for a knockout triumph, Teixeira should be seriously considered.

And Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira can be expected to emerge victorious from the card’s other fight, as a 3/10 hope to see off Dave Herman.

Nogueira counts a victory over UFC legend Randy Couture amongst past ventures, and should have too much class for Herman on home soil.
