Sheff Wed v Leeds: Calamitous Owls toils to continue against rivals

Published:

Leeds make the short trip to Hillsborough in great form and, knowing they will be hosting the two Championship games to follow this one, their promotion push could gather some momentum in the coming weeks.

They must avoid defeat at the home of the Owls first, however, but with Dave Jones’ men disgracefully off colour since losing their 19-match unbeaten streak that stretched across two campaigns, it’s well within Leeds’ capabilities.

With no win in eight and three straight home losses, Sheffield Wednesday’s confidence will be circling the drain; they now find themselves in the relegation mire after early-season threats to jump on the successive-promotion bandwagon that Norwich and Southampton have been towing along.

Neil Warnock – a huge Sheffield United supporter – would love nothing more than to heap misery on Wednesday, but will be hoping that some of his sides’ defensive solidity at Elland Road has been packed on to the team bus for this one.

Each of Leeds’ five road trips this season have resulted in at least three goals being scored, as well as both goalkeepers picking the ball out of the net once, if not more. These stats signal those travelling to Hillsborough are going to be entertained.

Over 2.5 goals, at 4/6, is a staple of a Leeds away day so jump on that, while temptation beckons for over 3.5 with a price of 7/4. Both teams to score is all but assured as well, which makes the 4/7 on offer not a bad bet, even if it lacks potential for a massive pay out.

Leeds’ last three away games have all been level at half time, a repeat of this here is at 5/4 and, with the Owls desperate to avoid defeat, a cagey first 45 minutes is easy to envisage.
