Premier League stars to take centre stage as Wales meet Scotland

Wales welcome Scotland to the Cardiff City Stadium desperately searching for the first win of their World Cup qualifying campaign at 6/4.

Chris Coleman’s men were soundly trounced 6-1 at the hands of Serbia in their last outing, whilst a 2-0 home defeat to Belgium preceded that.

In Scotland though, they face a side who have disappointed themselves, having managed just a draw at home to Macedonia in their last match.

That made it two draws from two after a more impressive goalless stalemate with Serbia, and the possibility of the sides cancelling each other out here tempts at 21/10.

Those who fancy the away side though, with the returning Steven Fletcher included in their squad for the first time in two years, can have 6/4 about Scottish success.

Fletcher’s inclusion raised eyebrows, but September’s Premier League Player of the Month has undoubtedly earned his recall with five goals in just six Sunderland appearances.

He enters this game as 6/1 joint-favourite to open the scoring, and the former Wolves and Burnley striker will likely see much support at that price.

For the home side meanwhile, significant changes have also been made by boss Coleman, who was infuriated by the Welsh display away to Serbia.

His reaction has been to remove the captaincy from Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, instead handing the armband to Swansea central defender Ashley Williams.

Whilst this move signifies a greater emphasis on the defensive side of Wales’ play, it is going forward where they will look to their most obvious threat in Gareth Bale.

Tottenham winger Bale is now widely regarded as one of the world’s finest attacking talents, and as such will be key to Welsh hopes of justifying their 6/4 price.

He, like the aforementioned Fletcher, is most favourable as a 6/1 chance to break the deadlock, and the set-piece specialist certainly appears the most likely goal source for the home side.

Ultimately, in what looks like a meeting of two ordinary sides, the standout stars of either team could well swing the balance on Friday night.
