Milan v Inter: Visitors’ to profit from away fixture in derby

Published:

Inter head into this early-season heavyweight tussle in better shape than their city rivals and their away form is considerably stronger than their home equivalent.

With this in mind, it’s understandable why the Nerazzuri can be backed as 19/10 favourites, despite the hostile San Siro crowd to be in the red and black of AC.

Andrea Stramaccioni’s men have won all six of their road trips in to competitions, conceding just one goal and, with just one win when hosting, will be glad of the fact that their bitterest rivals have home advantage in the first Milan derby of 2012/13.

This contest invariably provides a winner, with neither team keen on halving the bragging rights in Italy’s fashion capital. There hasn’t been a single draw between the pair since 2004, with four of the past seven fixtures going the way of Inter.

These figures include a league double last term, which starred Diego Milito at his goal-poaching best. Massimo Allegri’s men must be sick of the sight of the Argentine who has an incredible record in this fixture.

Since his 2009 switch from Genoa, the 33-year-old has racked up six goals in Milan derbies, never failing to get on the scoresheet when his side have come out on top, including a hat-trick in the most recent contest.

Unsurprisingly, he heads the first goalscorer betting, albeit shared with the out of sorts Giampaolo Pazzini, and can be backed at 11/2 to break the deadlock here. It’s a price with tremendous potential for windfall.

The 13/8 Ladbrokes are offering for him to notch any time is also something that should be considered, whereas an Inter win with three or more goals scored in the game is a tempting 11/5 when you consider that five of the last eight renewals have churned out as many, if not more.
