Khan and Brook British superfight a prospect in 2013
Published:Kell Brook and Amir Khan have engaged in a war of words recently, and an in-ring battle looks set to follow, possibly as early as next year.
Brook takes on Argentinian fighter Hector Saldivia in Sheffield first, and his 1/10 price indicates how straightforward Ladbrokes expect the British fighter’s task to be.
But in Khan he will likely face a much tougher opponent, as the meeting will represent a clash between two of Britain’s finest boxers, expected to be contested at welterweight level.
Eddie Hearn, Brook’s promoter, told Sky Sports News that talks have already begun with Khan’s representatives regarding a potential fight, and so the bout could occur sooner rather than later.
Tensions seemed frayed between the pair when they appeared on Sky Sports’ Ringside show recently and comments from Hearn have added further fuel to the fire.
“Khan’s been knocked out at lightweight and he’s been knocked out at light-welterweight,” he said.
“If he moves up to fight at welterweight he’ll get knocked out by Kell Brook too.”
What could make the potential collision yet more intriguing is the possibility of gold being on the line as well.
Unbeaten in 28 fights, Brook is well on course for an IBF welterweight world title shot in the near future, and theoretically could put the belt on the line opposing Khan.
And it is plausible that Brook could enter the bout as favourite, considering Khan has lost his past two fights, not counting a controversial split decision loss to Lamont Peterson.
That said, Khan maintains the star power to be viewed as a very credible opponent to Brook, should he complete a victory over Carlos Molinaro in their upcoming brawl.
As solid a draw as a Brook v Khan fight already appears, further wins for either competitor in their approaching bouts would undoubtedly generate significantly more buzz about the contest.
