Europa League accumulator: Newcastle one of five in 18/1 picks

Published:

The Europa League has been a happy hunting ground for our accumulators in recent weeks and we have picked another five teams this time in the hope of landing an 18/1 payout.

Atletico Madrid and PSV should have been the accumulator staples, but are far too short really even though they should win comfortably, so the onus is on Newcastle to lead home the fivefold.

Newcastle beat Bordeaux at home in their last Europa League fixture 3-0 and Club Brugge should prove even weaker.

The Toon have also won five from five against Belgian opposition and with Papiss Cisse left out of the draw with Sunderland, he will have a point to prove.

Steaua Bucharest are the biggest certainties of the accumulator if prices are to go by and have won their last eight home games in all competitions.

They host Molde, who play in an inferior league and are likely to play with a second-string line-up, given they face a monster league clash with Rosenberg at the weekend.

Lyon are another confident selection, as they have only lost two of their 16 European encounters at home in the past three seasons, to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Bilbao have looked a shadow of the side that reached the Europa League final last season and they may have already given up hope this year after defeats in their opening two games.

The final home pick is perhaps our riskiest inclusion, with Genk hosting Sporting Lisbon.

Both Valencia and Chelsea failed to win in Belgium last year, while they are unbeaten in the opening 11 games of their league season.

Lisbon have not won an away game yet all season and have already been thumped 3-0 in Hungary by Videoton in this competition.

Lastly, we believe Fenerbahce can win in Cyprus against domestic champions AEL Limassol, who have just appointed a new manager.

Europa League selections
Steaua Bucharest to beat Molde @ 1/3
Newcastle to beat Club Brugge @ 8/13
Lyon to beat Athletic Bilbao @ 4/5
Fenerbahçe to beat AEL Limassol @1/1
Genk to beat Sporting Lisbon @ 11/8
