English clubs to earn Champions League points in week two

Published:

The Champions League gears up for another round of group stage action after the opening 16 fixtures produced nearly 50 goals.

Manchester City were the only British club to lose their first game against European opposition, a crushingly late 3-2 defeat to Spanish champions Real Madrid.

And with Bundesliga winners Borrusia Dortmund next up for Roberto Mancini’s men, the Premier League holders may yet have to wait for their first three points.

The following accumulator offers a potential return of 6/1.

Manchester City to draw with Borrusia Dortmund @ 12/5

City had to rely on a late goal of their own to win at Fulham, with Eden Džeko clinching victory for the champions in the 87th minute.

In Germany, Dortmund thrashed Borussia Monchengladbach 5-0 for the perfect preparation ahead of their trip to Manchester.

And with Mats Hummels and Neven Subotic at the back, City will find it tough to break down the Dortmund defence, while Mario Gotze is a threat at the other end.

Arsenal to beat Olympiacos @ 2/7

The Gunners have faced Olympiacos twice in the last three Champions League tournaments, winning both encounters at the Emirates.

Arsene Wenger’s side may have lost on the road on both occasions, but they can be expected to overcome their Greek opponents for a third time in succession at home.

Olympiacos are currently top of the Superleague in Greece, but Arsenal will be determined to put their defeat against Chelsea to bed with a win here.

Manchester United to beat Cluj @ 1/2

Man United make the trip to the Romanian champions, with Fergie desperate to forget his side’s 3-2 defeat at home to Tottenham.

André Villas Boas’ side ended their Old Trafford hoodoo with a polished display, and the Red Devils manager will want to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible.

The away team must be wary of complacency when they face minnows Cluj, but with a United forward line bustling for places there will not be a lack of striking options.

Chelsea to beat Nordsjælland @ 1/3

FC Nordsjælland’s reward for winning the Danish league was a spot in Group E alongside such European heavyweights as Juventus and Chelsea.

However, an opening loss to Shakhtar Donetsk brought them back down to reality, with Chelsea likely to dish out similar punishment in Farum.

A well-earned 2-1 win over Arsenal will put the Blues in buoyant mood ahead of their Champions League clash, and Chelsea should be relied upon to return with all three points.
