Wattel to upset Molinari and Kaymer in BMW Italian Open

| 13.09.2012

Romain Wattel is not one of the most recognisable names in golf but he has been knocking on the door of a maiden European Tour victory and should be considered each-way for the BMW Italian Open.

The 21-year-old Frenchman was never in contention in his latest start at the KLM Open, but prior to this secured successive top-three finishes at the Johnnie Walker Championship and the European Masters.

With the top five being paid each-way in Florence and the field looking on the weak side, 40/1 is worthy of consideration that he tops the leaderboard after four rounds.

It is home golfer Francesco Molinari that heads the betting at 8/1 and he is generally always in contention in this event.

Molinari has finished inside the top eight in four of the last five years and has not missed a single cut since the Open Championship last year, which shows incredible consistency.

Martin Kaymer is the biggest name in the field and having not recorded a top-five finish all season, he will be desperate to locate some form ahead of the Ryder Cup.

Again given the weakness of the field, it seems outrageous that a player of Kaymer’s status is as big as 20/1 to win the BMW Italian Open.

Robert Rock is a 50/1 chance to become the first man to ever successfully defend this title, while another player to potentially feature is Spain’s Pablo Larrazabal.

Larrazabal led with three holes to play at the KLS Open before finishing second and a repeat of his performance over that four days must see him go close here.

He is available at 33/1 to triumph.
