Swansea v Everton: Jelavic injury to prove costly for visitors

Swansea may have lost their unbeaten start to the season at Aston Villa, but Michael Laudrup can rally his troops to return to winning ways against Everton.

This fixture is not historically one that brings fond memories for Swansea, as they have never beaten Everton in 15 previous meetings.

However, the expected absence of Nikica Jelavic for the visitors could prove extremely costly and Swansea look worth siding with at 6/4 to end their lengthy winless run against Everton.

Jelavic’s tiresome workrate for the Toffees is a major part of their attacking philosophy and the team certainly appeared weaker once he went off injured against Newcastle, despite the positive impact of replacement Victor Anichebe.

Rumours are that he will miss the game and be out of action for two weeks with his injured knee, which will put the pressure on summer signing Kevin Mirallas to lead the line.

Mirallas has scored twice in the Capital One Cup, but much of his Premier League impact thus far has revolved around conceding free kicks over scoring goals.

Swansea remain below strength in defence, with Alan Tate and Ben Davies set to retain their places, but the back four should grow after getting 90 minutes together at Aston Villa.

Everton are 11/8 to exploit any remaining defensive weakness to claim the three points, with the draw available at 9/4.

Over 2.5 goals have materialised in both of Swansea’s home games so far this season and this looks another decent betting proposition at 6/5.

Michu has found the target in both of his league appearances at the Liberty for Swansea and he is 9/4 to add his name to the scoresheet again at any time in the 90 minutes, which is the same price as Miralles.
