Sunderland v Wigan: Draw no bet on visitors could reap rewards

Wigan have a decent record at the Stadium of Light and taking advantage of the draw no bet market may be the best strategy for their away fixture with Sunderland.

Roberto Martinez’ men are 3/1 to secure victory, but it may pay to take the 2/1 on an away win under the premise that the stake will be refunded if the game is a draw.

This extra cushion could be valuable as Sunderland have drawn all four of their Premier League outings so far this season.

In fact, they will be the first team in Premier League history to draw their first five games of a new campaign if they share the points with Wigan and this eventuality can be backed at 12/5.

On paper this is Sunderland’s easiest fixture so far, but an odds-on price of 10/11 does seem a little short on a Sunderland success given their winless start.

Furthermore, Sunderland have managed just six shots on target across their opening four games and so it can hardly be argued that they are creating a bucket load of chances.

The expected return from injury of Adam Johnson should help in this regard and even though they are creating minimal opportunities, Steven Fletcher has four goals in his three Premier League appearances since signing from Wolves.

Fletcher is 1/1 to continue his scoring run here with a goal in the 90 minutes and is 4/1 to break the deadlock.

For Wigan, Franco Di Santo has not been a regular source of goals, but he has scored on his last two visits to the Stadium of Light.

He is 5/2 to strike at any time, but given that these two goals have both come in stoppage time, punters may prefer the 8/1 that he is on target last at Sunderland.
