Sentaril can rediscover early-season form at St Leger meeting

Published:

Sentaril took a backward step on a fine start to the season at York last time, but can get his campaign back on the right path in the Group Three Sceptre Stakes at Doncaster.

There are four televised races on day two of the St Leger festival, with the first three looked at here.

Doncaster 13:15 – Mollyvator @ 6/1

Nargys is a worthy favourite after the quality of her maiden win last time, but runners with a higher draw may be favoured and Jamie Spencer’s mount is in stall one.

Anecdote won well last time, but there is a case that she may prefer 7f to this trip of 6f and so Mollyvator gets the nod in an open contest.

She will appreciate the overnight rain and the return to 6f, having pulled too hard last time over a longer trip.

Doncaster 13:50 – Sentaril @ 3/1

Sentaril was a big flop last time at York but can be forgiven one bad race as not only was she said to have run a little flat, but it was also her first try at 6f.

She is back to 7f here and the fact she is a course and distance winner, alongside placing previously in a Group Three at Royal Ascot, makes her form the best on offer.

Bonnie Brae is another with course and distance form and she may have each-way claims. However, the ground may not be soft enough to produce her best, while she is high in the weights.

Appealing is still improving, finished third in a similar race last time and has William Buick on board, which potentially makes her well-priced at 14/1 for a place.

Doncaster 14:20 – Hototo @ 7/1

Much will hinge on whether Parliament Square from the Aidan O’Brien yard can defy top weight, like stalemate Reply did in this race 12 months ago.

Parliament Square got within a length of Reckless Abandon in a French Group One last time.

He is conceding a heap of weight to the favourite The Gold Cheongsam, who is bidding for a hat-trick and has the scope for further improvement.

But preference is for Hototo, who has already beaten Parliament Square off worse terms this season and seemed to relish the step up to 6f at York at last time, when continually pulling out more near the line.
