Peerless Hamilton primed for Singapore success

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton is the 4/6 favourite to reign in Singapore’s spectacular night race on Sunday after impressing during qualifying to take poll position, ahead of Williams’ Pastor Maldonado.

Such was the Englishman’s dominance that he finished nearly half a second quicker than the rest of the field, with Red Bull’s Seb Vettel and Jensen Button of McLaren completing the second row of the grid.

Championship leader Fernando Alonso came in fifth, over a second behind the leader.

Hamilton is in irresistible form, this poll being his third in the last four races while a win at the Marina Bay circuit on Sunday would also represent his third in four and McLaren’s fourth straight success, with Button’s win in Belgium sandwiching his last two victories.

It’s hard to see past Hamilton given his flawless qualifying performance and the strong performance of the McLaren car, while he has secured victory at this circuit once before, in 2009 when he edged out Toyota’s Timo Glock and Alonso.

Reigning champion Vettel was the victor here under the lights last season and is second favourite at 7/2, while Alonso has the other two victories at this circuit and is third fav at 10/1.

Alonso currently leads Hamilton by 37 points in the drivers championship and with Hamilton four places ahead of the Spaniard in the grid, the Englishman will be confident of stripping down that lead for the fourth week in a row.

Hamilton is 11/4 to claim his second title, with Alonso remaining the favourite at 8/13.
