Notts Forest v Derby: Goals galore on the cards in east Midlands clash

Published:

Nottingham Forest have had a so-so start to the season, despite the monstrous investment their Kuwaiti owners have pumped into the playing staff.

They’re priced up at 10/11 to claim the bragging rights over east Midlands neighbours Derby in a game where the highest-profile acquisition they have made, Jermaine Jenas, will be in line to make his second City Ground bow.

It’s 14/1 that Jenas, on loan from Tottenham, will open the scoring in the game or 9/2 that’ll he notch one at any point in the contest.

If he was looking to get off to a winning start on his return to his hometown club, historically, Derby are a side he might have hoped to avoid.

The Rams have won on three of their last five visits to their rivals, including a 2-1 triumph last season after playing 88 minutes with 10-men.

They’re a great price at 3/1 given their recent record in this fixture but, whether they can get the result or not, goals are a dead cert if history is anything to go by.

There have been a ridiculous 30 goals scored in the past seven renewals of this fixture, the 5-2 Forest win in 2010/11 contributing the most.

For the hosts to pull off a similar feat this time around and net four or more times, Ladbrokes are offering 6/1, which could be a decent outside bet given the financial gulf between the clubs.

For both teams to score, a price of 4/5 is on offer and that is worth putting your mortgage on. Not only has this happened in each of the past seven between the pair, both teams have scored in six of Derby’s eight games this term, whereas Forest’s last seven have also adhered to this eventuality.
