Newcastle v Aston Villa: Magpies to soar against grounded Villains

Published:

Both Newcastle United and Aston Villa have started this season as they ended the last – and that’s only good news for the Magpies.

Despite losing to the irresistible Chelsea earlier in the week, Newcastle showed enough in their opening victory against Tottenham Hotspur to suggest they have the capabilities to once again push for a Champions League spot.

Meanwhile, Villa may have a new manager but it’s a case of ‘as you were’ on the pitch. They’ve opened up with two defeats – showing little improvement from last season’s often dire campaign – and face another tough assignment at the Sports Direct Arena…

Match odds

The Magpies are the 8/13 favourites to win this clash and it’s hard to see beyond the hosts for the win.

Villa have now gone 12 Premier League games without a victory and face a team who have lost just one of their last 11 league games home.

They were impressive for large spells against Spurs in their opener and with Aston Villa looking toothless and directionless, it should be another difficult afternoon for Villa – especially considering they’ve lost on five of their last six trips to Newcastle, drawing the other.

If, for some reason, you can see Villa getting the win though, then they can be backed at a pretty large 9/2.

Other markets

Newcastle have kept four clean sheets in their previous six home games and, with Villa scoring just once in their opening two games and rarely looking threatening, everything points to this being an extremely tight game.

Backing Newcastle at 6/4 to keep a clean sheet looks like one of the most tempting bets available for this Sunday afternoon game.
