Murray and Djokovic US Open final appears in prospect

Andy Murray will head into his US Open semi-final tie with Tomas Berdych today in the knowledge that his opponent possesses a superior head-to-head record.

Aside from Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, Berdych is the only top 10-ranked player with a better record opposing Murray, but the Scot is still 4/9 favourite to triumph tonight.

And that comes in light of his terrific form throughout the season, which has seen him reach the Wimbledon final in addition to claiming an Olympic gold medal.

The US Open is also the tournament in which Murray first contested a Grand Slam final, and he will be confident of making another here amidst his superb displays throughout 2012.

Those who feel that Czech Berdych can maintain his superior record against Murray though, can have 7/4 regarding his progression to what would be a first US Open final.

Punters will take most encouragement from his four wins in six outings against the Scot, including a French Open success in the only Grand Slam meeting of the pair.

Elsewhere, Novak Djokovic is expected to make yet another Grand Slam final with minimal ease, attributed a 1/20 price to overcome Spaniard David Ferrer.

8/1 Ferrer has already bested Serbian opposition en route to the last four of the tournament, conquering Janko Tipsarevic at the quarter-final stage.

But in Djokovic he faces a far more daunting prospect, with the Serbian already having reached two major finals this year, winning one of those.

He is also the defending US Open champion, and will be determined to retain his crown in the final Grand Slam tournament of the season.

His form thus far at Flushing Meadows would suggest he is primed to do so, with Djokovic having failed to drop a set throughout this year’s competition.
