Man Utd v Tottenham: Van Persie to be in the goals against old foes

Published:

Tottenham make the long trip to Old Trafford to face a bang in form Man United side and they take one of the worst records in Premier League history with them.

Spurs haven’t beaten Sir Alex Ferguson’s charges in 26 meetings, which is phenomenal given their staple status in the Premier League’s upper echelons. They were even considered title contenders with United last season, albeit for about four minutes, but their ridiculous run makes a price of 5/1 to win here too short to consider.

United have been in fine form since losing to Everton on day one and, despite less-than convincing performances against Liverpool and Newcastle in their last two games, they will have no trouble despatching a Spurs side who have looked far from comfortable in all but one of their opening five league games.

There has been three or more goals scored in five of United’s six domestic clashes this season and more of the same can be expected here. The 5/4 available with Ladbrokes that they come out on top – for the seventh successive time in all comps – with three or more scored to boot is an excellent price.

Another goal for Robin Van Persie looks a shoo-in here also. The Dutchman has netted five goals in the past four seasons against Spurs whilst playing in Arsenal colours and for him to get on the scoresheet alongside the inevitable Red Devils win is priced up at 6/5.

Andre Villas Boas could probably do without more negative omens ahead of this game but, another cause for concern is that Van Persie has never been on the losing side against Spurs in the games in which he has found the back of the net.
