Legendary Williams to further enrich storied career in US Open

Serena Williams has truly looked back to her best in 2012, and she can round off a terrific year with US Open victory at 1/6.

Williams has already claimed the Wimbledon title this season, along with an Olympic gold medal, and would now appear primed to secure the fourth US Open crown of her career.

An emphatic straight sets triumph over Sara Errani was the prelude to Williams’ upcoming final appearance, in which her patented ferocious backhand was prominent.

Now, in search of a 15th Grand Slam title, the American would appear immensely difficult to stop, and could be worth investment at 8/15 to win in straight sets again here.

The 1/1 odds about the match featuring under 18.5 games also look very tempting, considering Williams’ semi-final was completed in just 15.

It is 8/11 that the match is concluded in more than 18.5 games meanwhile, and some punters could take an interest in that considering the calibre of Williams’ opponent.

Whilst it appears unlikely that number one seed Victoria Azarenka will best Williams at 4/1, she should represent the toughest challenge of her Flushing Meadows campaign.

Azarenka, like Williams, is gunning for her second Grand Slam title of the season, and reached the final of this tournament via a 2-1 triumph over Maria Sharapova.

The gruelling nature of Azarenka’s run to the final could work against her though, with the Belarusian having contested consecutive three-set matches in her last two outings.

By contrast, Williams has lost only 19 games in six matches at the tournament, advancing via straight sets far more often than not.

And as such, the big-serving American looks by far the most appealing prospect tonight, with her consistently serving above 110mph in her semi-final victory.

Thus, even at 1/6, Williams should be backed to land a fourth US Open title this weekend.
