Dufner backed to tame East Lake and win Tour Championship

Jason Dufner has already won twice on the PGA Tour this year and he is the player being backed by punters to triumph in the Tour Championship.

Ladbrokes are facing a six-figure payout should Dufner come out on top at East Lake, with the vast number of bets resulting in his price being cut from 33/1 to 25/1 for victory.

In terms of his performances throughout the season on the PGA Tour, Dufner’s game may be more suited than any other player to the demands of East Lake, where double-digit winning scores have been scarce in recent years.

Looking at the PGA Tour statistics, Dufner is prominent in all of the key areas, ranking fourth in finding greens in regulation and 16th in finding the fairway off the tee.

The one area where he has been largely disappointing is with the putter, but the Tour Championship does not represent the same birdie-fest as other events on the calendar.

Dufner has also slumped from second to tenth in the overall FedEx Cup standings after a quiet run in the playoffs and will know that nothing other than victory will be enough to scoop the additional bonus.

Meanwhile, his other two PGA Tour successes this season in the Byron Nelson and the Zurich Classic have arrived in southern America and the Tour Championship is being hosted in Atlanta, Georgia.

It is not often that Matt Kuchar is 66/1 to win a golf tournament and this price is generating some each-way support.

However, based on recent results this price seems justified.

Kuchar ranked last in the whole field in finding greens in regulation in the BMW Championship and has not been inside the top 30 in any of the last three playoff events.

His record at East Lake in previous years does also not inspire much confidence, breaking par just once in eight rounds.
