Dandy Boy and Society Rock the each-way options for Sprint Cup

Published:

With the Betfred Sprint Cup being all about Ortensia, and to a lesser degree Bated Breath, there is some solid each-way options on offer at Haydock.

Dandy Boy is one at 16/1 now that he steps back up to 6f, while Society Rock is overpriced at 10/1 if reproducing his form from earlier in the season.

The last two runs of Dandy Boy suggest that plenty of improvement is required, but he did have excuses on each occasion.

Like many, he was inconvenienced by the heavy ground at Newmarket, while the fact that he missed the start also didn’t help his cause.

Then on his latest start behind Ortensia in the Nunthorpe he did not have the speed to threaten on a first career start over 5f.

This year’s Wokingham winner was staying on towards the end once getting a bit more racing room and no horse in the Sprint Cup field has a higher win percentage over 6f, with his two triumphs from four starts over the trip.

There is also the consensus that the early speed will be down the centre of the track and Dandy Boy has the optimum draw in these circumstances in stall eight.

Society Rock was especially unfortunate when finishing behind Black Caviar in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, when his chance was blown when missing the start.

He arguably would have won otherwise, given that he finished within two lengths from the front, far less than the ground he forfeited at the start.

Society Rock then took third in the same Newmarket race entered by Dandy Boy, when for unknown reason seeming to run slightly below his best.
