Chelsea and Man United target Everton’s Marouane Fellaini

Both Chelsea and Manchester United are tracking Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini, with a January move mooted.

The 24-year-old has started the season with the Toffees brightly, scoring twice in three games including the winner against the Red Devils on the opening weekend.

However, quotes this week published by Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad suggest that Fellaini is ready to quit Everton possibly as early as January.

“I have started my fifth season at Everton,” Fellaini told the paper.

“This will be one of my last seasons. I have seen everything. In January, or at the end of the season, I will look for another club or league.”

The news came as a body blow to David Moyes’ side, who have looked threatening so far this campaign with Fellaini playing behind Croatian striker Nikica Jelavic.

Despite the quotes surfacing from his homeland, Fellaini did take to his Facebook page to insist that he is committed to Everton, at least in the short-term.

“I was very surpised to read in some newspapers that I will leave Everton very soon and perhaps next January,” he wrote on the social networking site.

“With Everton, I am ready to play all the season and to reach our goals of this season.”

It remains to be seen where the former Standard Liege talent will be plying his trade next season, whilst Moyes himself has admitted he could lose Fellaini in January.

“Whatever happens now, whatever Fellaini says, he is here for at least the next four months”, said the Everton manager.

“I won’t say there’s no chance in the next window because everybody is available throughout the world if the offer is right.”

Recent developments are thought to have alerted a number of top clubs in Europe, principally Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Manchester United.

With a five year contract tying Fellaini to Everton, any move is not likely to come cheap with a £30m fee mooted.
