Arsenal save bookies on busiest Super Sunday of season so far
Published:ARSENAL’S LATE equaliser saved the bookies on the busiest in-play day of the season to date.
The bookies were on the brink of a paying out on a perfect multiple storm before Arsenal scored which would have been the second blow of the day following Manchester United’s victory from behind at Anfield.
United were backed in-play at odds of up to 4/1 with the comeback sealing a £200,000 swing in favour of punters in the match result book.
The firm also bet in running on man of the match for the first time since Euro 2012 with eventual winner Steven Gerrard backed into 8/13 following his goal. The market, along with the exclusive first and next assist market will be offered in-play for the majority of Super Sunday fixtures this season.
Manchester United’s victory also saw a shake up in the title betting, as they ousted rivals City at the head of the market. United are now the 6/4 favourites and market leaders for the first time this season with City out to 13/8. Arsenal remain in the hunt at 11/1.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Punters had the wind in their sails following United’s comeback at Old Trafford. Arsenal’s equaliser was very welcome and on a bumper weekend for turnover we’ll call it a score draw.”
He added: “United have regained pole position in the title betting for the first time. It’s a significant move considering City started the season as strong favourites.”
