Woods favourite but Scott looks a tempting Bridgestone bet
Published:Tiger Woods has been installed as the 5/1 favourite for this weekend’s Bridgestone Invitational – but there are plenty of golfers in the elite field who can push the American all the way.
It certainly looks good for Woods on paper, with the 14-times major champion already winning the event on seven previous occasions.
His last victory was back in 2009 just months before the dreadful loss in form that coincided with revelations about his personal life.
He finished third at the Open last month despite putting in a performance that many felt to be too conservative – particularly off the tee. His driving has rarely been the strongest area of his game though, but that hasn’t affected his form in this event which he has dominated since its inception back in 1999.
Despite Woods winning three times already this season, the 5/1 may be rather too short for many punters to seriously consider, but there are plenty of other golfers further down the betting worth looking at.
Reigning champion Adam Scott is joint second favourite with World No.1 Luke Donald at 16/1.
Scott was brilliant for 68 holes of the Open before four consecutive bogies in the final quartet of holes meant Ernie Els beat him to the Claret Jug by one shot.
He won at Firestone by four shots last year and has four top ten finishes on the PGA Tour this season, with a scoring average of just over 70 shots per round.
With a second and third place finish behind him this year, backing Scott – who also had a top ten finish at Firestone in 2010 – each-way looks to be a punt well worth consideration.
