Williams and Stosur fans have most to gain from US Open tennis offer

Serena Williams is the 11/10 favourite to win the US Open for the fourth time and punters concerned over the topsy-turvy nature of her form can take advantage of an offer for the Grand Slam from Ladbrokes.

On all tournament winner bets placed up to £100 and each-way bets of £50, Ladbrokes will refund losing stakes if the backed player goes out in the first round at Flushing Meadows.

Williams may be in form at present after winning Wimbledon and then landing gold at the Olympics, but her form can be patchy.

She failed to make it beyond the first hurdle of the French Open earlier this season when losing to Virginie Razzano and she was also a heavy favourite to triumph in the Grand Slam.

Lightning may strike twice at the US Open and so punters can take a small degree of added comfort from the Ladbrokes offer.

Another fancied player prone to an early Grand Slam exit is defending US Open champion Sam Stosur, who is 25/1 to win back-to-back titles this year.

Stosur went out in the first round of her home Grand Slam at the Australian Open in January and then only got as far as round two at Wimbledon.

Meanwhile, Stosur has been eliminated in the first round of the US Open on four occasions during her career.

It is much tougher to see one of the leading fancies from the men’s draw at the US Open being sent crashing out in the first round.

Roger Federer has not gone out of a Grand Slam since 2003, Novak Djokovic has reached at least the semi finals in the last five renewals of the US Open and Andy Murray has reached seven successive Grand Slam quarter finals.

Obviously, there is, of course, the risk that one of the favourites will retire injured in a first-round match and so this offer does provide a degree of cover for this eventuality.
